lululemon Unrolls the Yoga Mat at the Great Wall with Community Collectives
BEIJING, CHINA (May 30, 2026) — Just as every brick forms the foundation of the Great Wall, yoga is the foundation of every movement—a practice that brings body, breath, and awareness into alignment. Set against the breathtaking landscape of the Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall in Beijing, lululemon hosted a signature yoga festival in collaboration with internationally renowned Ambassadors and yoga instructors, welcoming thousands of community members for a day of movement, mindfulness, and connection.

“lululemon is founded from Yoga. Over the years, with every new store we have opened across China, alongside our Ambassadors, we have invited our community to join us on the mat, creating space for them to feel the power of the breath, connecting our mind and bodies in one fluid motion in our practice. This year, returning to Beijing again, we are deeply honored to unroll our mats on the Great Wall, arguably China’s most beloved and culturally significant landmarks, not to mention one of the seven wonders of the world. With thousands in attendance, today was not only a celebration of a decade-long dream, fulfilled, it is also a powerful reminder that the practice of yoga continues to endure in our communities. We are all connected in movement, with every inhale and exhale, our feet rooted to the ground, and our outstretched arms reaching for the sky.” said Lynn Cheah, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing, lululemon China.
At the foot of the Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall, nestled in a century-old chestnut grove, dancers from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre, led by principal dancer Hongji Chang, performed the classic excerpt Eight Trigrams Palm from the acclaimed theatrical dance Wing Chun. The juxtaposition of dance and Chinese martial arts invited a search for balance—where softness and strength intertwine, and body and mind move as one.

As golden hour settled over the Great Wall, lululemon Brand Ambassador Yilong Zhu joined the HiiKo Drum Group atop the ancient ramparts to perform a striking sequence of traditional Chinese drums. The reverberating beats echoed like the heartbeat of everyone present. Over 200 yoga practitioners stood upon the millennia-old wall, embraced by the vastness of sky and earth, sinking into their breath to the rhythm of the drums as they flowed through a special Tai Chi–infused yoga flow designed by lululemon Ambassador Min Lin.

“This special practice, which beautifully integrated elements of Chinese Tai Chi, was truly fresh and inspiring to me. Practicing together here on the Great Wall has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Zhu added, “I’ve been practicing yoga with Min Lin, who has inspired me to deepen my understanding of yoga. Yoga is accessible—it requires nothing more than a mat and a willingness to begin. More than just a practice, yoga is rooted in movement, breath, and awareness. It helps me reconnect with my body and mind while supporting my overall wellbeing.”

Located in Beijing’s Huairou District, the Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall is known as the only Great Wall section connected to water. Throughout the day, lululemon Ambassadors including Ryan Leier, Ryan Mannix, and yoga instructors such as Mary Taylor, led 20 sessions and conversations for over 2,000 participants, featuring Ashtanga, Vinyasa, singing bowl meditation, gong bath, and Gyrotonic-inspired movement. As night fell, the winding Great Wall was lit up sequentially. The lights rose and fell like breath, allowing everyone to pause, breath, and connect deeply amid the mountains, waters, and ancient heritage.

Notably, all elements of the event adhered the principle of “Minimal Intervention, Maximum Respect,” using fully removable, zero-impact installations. Volunteers from local Great Wall Conservation Stations also joined the festival, sharing awareness around cultural preservation and environmental stewardship. In addition, lululemon made a donation to the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation to support a preventive conservation project for the Great Wall in Huairou District, helping to safeguard the Great Wall itself and strengthen the foundation for protecting this cultural heritage.
